I’ve included the library as a script in my build process then it’s just a single line to implement: const myLazyLoad = new lazyLoad() įor more on using the library, head over and check out the documentation. I needed something that also worked with responsive images - and Andrea Verlicchi’s Vanilla Lazyload library does this well. Lazyloading has been around for awhile, and there’s a large number of libraries that have matured over the years. And if the user isn’t actually going to scroll through all of your images, having them load them all can be a bit of a waste. On pages with a large number of images, having users load every image at once can really slow down the user’s experience. Having to retype or copy/paste all of the code for a responsive image can be quite tedious and error-prone, so automation is key. So, in short, using Hugo shortcodes turns our simple, one-line image code into a complex, responsive image. The 3rd element - the img element - is just for IE, as IE doesn’t support the picture element properly - so the normal image should just show. We’ll get to that in the next section about lazy loading. ![]() You’ll notice that our shortcode doesn’t actually supply a src or srcset parameter though - which is what actually outputs the image. Within each source, we’re also supplying both a retina version and standard resolution to ensure that our images look crisp when needed. Work out which media query in the sizes list is the first one to be true. We are supplying 2 sources - one for smaller devices and one for other devices. Browser Algorithm Look at its device width. Now, we’re using the picture element to actually display the image itself. Get "parameter-name" gets the value of a parameter supplied by the shortcode call. If we supply a caption parameter in our shortcode, we’re going to use the figure element to group the image along with the related caption (using the figcaption element). Let’s walk through what’s happening in the shortcode itself. Foresight.js by Adam Bradley is a solution that works as a kind of connection speed checker, by first downloading a 50K test file and then determining which. In this example, I’m using a blank alt text as I’m supplying a caption instead - there’s no reason to duplicate content. Thats why in many developers opinions, responsive images ought to consider the bandwidth available on any given device, and adjust the image size accordingly to cut out excess downloads. The max-width property in CSS is used to create resize image property. I’m using a shortcode that I’ve named img along with a number of parameters - the path of the image, the type of image, alt text, and a caption. The resize image property is used in responsive web where image is resizing automatically to fit the div container. This is a custom shortcode, so all of the naming and parameters are arbitrary - this isn’t a default Hugo feature. We’ll start off with the call to the shortcode - this is what I throw in my markdown posts. The documentation on using shortcodes in Hugo is quite thorough, but we’ll go through the shortcode that I’m using in some detail.įirst, let’s take a look at the whole thing: ![]() ![]() Using shortcodes to display dynamic images ![]() I talk about my build process using gulp here.

This is why it will look like you are not getting new mail when a folder is still going through initial sync. Due to how exchange works, you will see the 512 newest messages in a folder at the initial start of sync then the rest of the folder's contents will be back filled before you see any mail that arrives after this point. ![]() If you ever have a problem with an Exchange account, you should remove the account and let it sync back from the server.Īny folder with more than a few thousand messages is going to take some time to fully come down when you first sync your account. If certificate authentication is enabled on the mail server, make sure that your mailbox has no more than 11,000 messages. I’ve found that the same thing happens on my MacBook sometimes, and always knowing that I can always access the login page even if for some reason my computer isn’t prompting me brings peace of mind if I’m behind on work and headed to a coffee shop.If new messages don't appear in your Exchange mailbox Theoretically, this little workaround should work on any device with which you’re having trouble connecting to open networks. If you head to 192.168.1.1, the most common default router IP address, I’ve found that nine times out of ten I’m immediately redirected to the login page. If this doesn’t work, though, there’s a second option that not many people know about. #Galaxy wont pull up login page on jotspot full#In most cases, I’ve found that this will automatically redirect me to the network’s login page if I haven’t logged in already, and then I’m just a few taps away from having full connection. If you find yourself needing to login, the first thing you should try is just opening up the browser and navigate to a webpage. ![]() The first I’ve tried countless times before, but the latter is something I only just learned this week. The root of the problem could be some kind of outdated or buggy router firmware, a bug in Android, or some combination of the two, but there’s actually a couple of quick workarounds regardless of the cause. It turns out that there’s a really simple fix. It still connects, but doesn’t prompt me to go to the login page. I’ve experienced this most often on my Nexus devices as of late, and it’s frustrating sometimes because even using the “Forget Network” button - or even resetting the phone entirely - doesn’t seem to help. The phone will “connect,” but you haven’t logged in so you don’t have a working connection. Most of the time your device will prompt you with a notification telling you to open the network’s sign in page, but sometimes it… just doesn’t. ![]() ![]() To get your WiFi connection working, chances are that you need to successfully log in to the network.
